Thank You!
Dear Colleagues,
the organizing committee would like to thank you for coming to Kuchl and taking part in the first Salzburg Conference on Smart Materials. Thank you for your exciting presentations, posters and discussions. It was good to see you all again!
Despite the challenging circumstances and restrictions surrounding the event, we hope you were able to connect with the research community, share your latest findings regarding the future of materials and acquire new knowledge. With about 75 participants on-site and 15 on-line, we hope we were able to provide an interesting scientific program for all of you.
Please find the conference proceedings here.
Regarding future activities, we are excited to announce the next Salzburg Conference for Smart Materials at the Paris Lodron University of Salzburg, from the 12th to 15th of September 2022. Save the Date!
Thank you for your support and looking forward to seeing you all once again next year in Salzburg!

The focus of this conference is to bring together an international and diverse research community with leading academic scientists and researchers of different backgrounds to share their recent research and affiliation on smart materials. The conference therefore not just focuses on the material science and engineering side, but also on smart manufacturing and characterization methods. A main focus will also be on smart materials contributing to a bio-economy (biogenic resources, sustainability, environmental applications).
The conference will have different tracks according to the contributions handed in through the call of abstract. The exact tracks are to be decided but will be constituted around the following topics of Smart Materials:
Material Science and Engineering
- (Bio)-polymers
- Lightweight and composite materials
- Nano technology & materials
Smart Manufacturing & Material Design
- (Personal) digital fabrication
- Human-Computer Interaction
- Do-it-Yourself materials
Smart Material Characterization
- Measuring methods
